Greetings to all members of our St Joseph’s Otahuhu school community! I have been Principal at St Joseph’s for just over 25 years! In that time I have got to know many families and their children, as well as working with a wonderful staff and Board of Trustees. One of the most rewarding parts of my work as Principal is to see children grow and develop in ALL areas of their lives and to move on to become good and profitable members of society who live honest and good lives that reflect the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Church and our Mercy Values of Respect, Compassion and Service. Over the years I have become increasingly convinced that, when school, home and the child work hard together, we can work magic! It is wonderful to see so many past pupils of St Joseph’s returning with their own children as well as contributing to the school in a range of ways. That makes for a very strong and cohesive school community, and community builds strong and productive citizens and families of the future. God bless everyone involved in our St Joseph’s School Community.
I have been Deputy Principal here at St Joseph’s for many years.I am responsible for the Senior Syndicate, (Rooms 1 - 6), and I support Miss Horgan in the running of the school. I am also responsible for sport throughout the school.
I share an office with Mrs West, who is responsible for the Junior School.
I love working with the pupils of St Joseph’s because they are so eager to learn new things and work hard to do their very best.
Tena koutou Katoa
Nga mihi nui, ko Helen West ahau. I’m delighted to be in a new role of Assistant Principal in this friendly and ‘whanau orientated’ community of St Joseph's School Otahuhu. Previously I have been in teaching and management roles in Auckland and Northland schools and value this new opportunity of sharing skills and experiences with my colleagues here. I look forward to working with the staff, students and school community and contributing to a successful learning journey for all children at St Joseph’s School.
