SATURDAY 29 MAY 2010

we headed off to Duder Regional Park for our third leisure walk of the year.

When we drove through the gates we saw huge bulls roaming in their paddock, we quickly checked to see if anyone was wearing red.  Mrs Massari was, but as long as she didn't agitate them, she wouldn't have to run for her life.

Once we'd parked we headed to the loo, because there were no toilets along the walk we were going to do.  Mr Massari gave me the map and the group and I got together to figure out which route we were going to take.

We chose the farm loop and got on our way.  Going uphill was a struggle for me and soon the walk was stopped because I couldn't go on.  Mr and Mrs Massari figured I must have asthma, because I was struggling to breathe.  They decided we'd turn back and find a less strenuous walk, this meant heading to the van and driving off to Maraetai and Omana beach. On the way back to the van, down came the rain, firsty a drizzle, then the heavy stuff.

Rain or shine, you have to admit that's a beautiful rainbow!

We whizzed along the narrow road and before long we were strolling along the beach, staring out to sea.  It was a beautiful day to be out, the sun shone, it was hard to believe we'd just escaped the rain. Strolling along, we listened to the sounds of nature, birds chirping, the gentle woosh of the waves.  We all mucked about, throwing shells into the sea, laughing and being free.  Some of the group took their shoes off, feeling the cool sand on their feet.  All this fun made us feel hungry, so we sat at a bench and enjoyed something to eat, joking, chatting and laughing together.

Once our hunger was satisfied we mucked around with a 'stress ball', throwing it to one another, simply enjoying ourselves.  At around 11:10 we headed back to the van, but first we had a beach pebble throwing competition, before driving to Omana Beach, where we got to be little kids again, playing on the swings, slides and monkey bars.

Sadly, after ten minutes of reliving our childhood memories, we had to leave.  On the way back to school we chatted about Greek mythology, our religion, the future, dreams and riddles.

At the end of the journey, we were all tired, but happy.  It was an awesome, fun-filled day!
