2010 Term 2

MUSIC – WORLD WAR II SONGS

This term we are learning how war affects communities and how people cope in situations beyond their control.

As part of our unit study on world war II, we will be getting to know a few songs  that were popular during the time, with a particular focus on songs sung by the allied soldiers and their families back home.

Room 1 & 2 were very lucky to have Miss Ngiam teach us our first song, Pa Mai, it was written for Maori soldiers in particular to wish them good fortune from Aotearoa as they went off to war.

First we learnt the song together as a whole class, until we were comfortable with the tune.  After that Miss Ngiam  asked us to separate into two groups and sang the song in chorus, and each group selected a leader to conduct their group.  Fereni and Anna were the two leaders...they did a great job!

We had heaps of fun learning the song and look forward to learning the next one.   Thanks Miss Ngiam.
