PREPARATIONS FOR CAMP 2010

In preparation for our camp this year, we have had a written language focus on writing letters, both formal and informal. We wrote letters for a variety of reasons, such as: letters of concern to our school principal; letters of congratulations to Mr Vave about his wonderful vegetable garden and letters of appeal for donations of various food items for our school camp.
Below is one of the letters appeal, written to Pak 'n Save.
Dear Sir/Madam
SCHOOL CAMP APPEAL
We are writing to ask you for donations for our Year 7 and 8 school camp in November this year.
We have been fundraising for our school camp, but would appreciate it if your company could provide us with a supply of powdered Raro drink, jam, and smooth peanut butter. We would a need a few jars of each, as there will be approximately 50 students going for 4 days. Your donations will help with our breakfast each morning, as well as our afternoon tea. As you can imagine we will be doing many physical activities, such as, kayaking, abseiling and archery and we will need plenty of energy.
Thank you for reading our letter, we sincerely hope you will be able to assist.
Yours sincerely
Sharnin & Lorie
p.p. Year 7 & 8 students P.S . You may contact our teacher, Mrs Massari, on shannonm@stjosephs.school.nz or at the above address, or telephone her on, 2764563. We will acknowledge your support in our school newsletter.
After sending our letters out, we were thrilled to receive positive responses from Watties and Pak 'n Save, Sylvia Park.
Watties sent us a variety pack, containing a few tins of spaghetti and baked beans, which will be most helpful when we prepare our breakfast.
We received an immediate response from Pak 'n Save, Sylvia Park, much to our excitement. Read the e-mails below and you'll see just how generous and willing they were to support us.
Dear Mrs Massari
We have received your letter regarding your school camp and your request for sponsorship and are pleased to be able to inform you that we will be able to meet your sponsorship needs. Could you please forward me a full list of your requirements in order for us to discuss them?
We are pleased to be able to do this and I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Regards,
Aaron
You can imagine how thrilled we were when we read the request for a full list of our requirements to be sent, after only asking for peanut butter, jam and raro!
Read Mrs Massari's response:
Dear Aaron
Many thanks for your prompt reply to our letter regarding donations of food. It was very exciting reading your response, and we are thrilled to hear that Pak 'n Save will be able to help us out.
As you requested, we have compiled a list of food items that we will require. Naturally we realise that you probably won't be able to help us out with it all, nevertheless we appreciate whatever you are able to do.
These are some of the items we will be needing:
RARO/REFRESH: 100 sachets
RICIES/CORNFLAKES (Cereal): 30 x 350gram packets
10 kg standard white flour
5 kg white sugar
3 large tins of MILO – 1kg tins
6 jars of crunchy peanut butter
2 jars of smooth peanut butter
6 jars strawberry jam
1 large jar marmite
1 small vegemite
30 litres of long-life milk
Once again many thanks for your prompt response. We look forward to hearing from you soon with a list of what you will be able to contribute. Once we know then we will work out what we need to purchase ourselves.
Kind regards
Mrs Shannon Massari & the Year 7 & 8 girls of St Joseph's School, Otahuhu
A FEW MORE E-MAILS PASSED BETWEEN MRS MASSARI AND THE STORE MANAGER, JUST ABOUT SPECIFIC QUANTITIES, SUCH AS THE SIZE JARS OF JAM, ETC AND THEN AN E-MAIL TO ASK WHEN WE'D LIKE TO COLLECT THE ITEMS. THIS WAS EVEN MORE EXCITING, AS MRS MASSARI DECIDED TO SEND A LETTER TO LORIE'S, SHARNIN'S AND ZOE'S PARENTS TO ASK IF THEY COULD ACCOMPANY HER TO COLLECT THE FOOD, AS THEY'D BEEN INVOLVED IN WRITING THE LETTER. THE PICTURES BELOW SHOW THEM MEETING AND RECEIVING THE GOODS FROM STUART AT PAK 'N SAVE, SYLVIA PARK.

ONCE THE TROLLEY'S WERE UNLOADED INTO THE CAR, MRS MASSARI AND THE GIRLS WENT BACK INTO THE STORE TO FIND THE ACTUAL PRICES OF THE ITEMS WE RECEIVED. WHEN THEY GOT BACK TO SCHOOL THEY WORKED OUT APPROXIMATELY HOW MANY DOLLARS WE'VE BEEN SAVED...THE GRAND TOTAL OF ABOUT: $282.60! AS STUART, FROM PAK 'N SAVE SAID...IF YOU DON'T ASK, YOU'LL NEVER KNOW...THERE IS NO HARM IN ASKING!

HERE ARE THE ROOM 1 GIRLS WITH PAK 'N SAVE'S GENEROUS DONATION ....ISN'T IT AMAZING. NOW THE MONTHS NEED TO FLY BY, WE CAN'T WAIT TO GO ON CAMP.

BY THE WAY... IF YOU DON'T SHOP AT PAK 'N SAVE, SYLVIA PARK...WHY NOT CONSIDER IT...THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY COMMITTED TO SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES IN THE VICINTY, SO WHY NOT SUPPORT THEM...WE KNOW OUR TEACHER AND SOME OF OUR PARENTS DO!
