Welcome to Room 8!

Room 8 celebrated Matariki by making pounamu taonga (greenstone treasures) from salt dough. We made various shapes including koru (tree fern), hei matu (fish hook) and hei toki (adze). We worked with Rooms 7 and 9 to prepare a hangi of delicious vegetables and wore our pendants during the celebration meal.

We have also been developing our counting, measuring and estimating skills in Maths.

In RE, we have learnt that we are all part of God's Church. We have learnt some special prayers, and about how to bless one another.

In term 1 we learnt about Jesus’ life on earth. We have learnt that Jesus was once a child and liked to do lots of the same things we do: playing, spending time with his family, praying, and learning new things. We tried on the kind of clothes that Jesus would have worn – a tunic, mantle, girdle and sandals.

We have also sampled some foods that Jesus ate: figs, pomegranate, sourdough bread and olive oil, as well as grape juice. Everyone found something they liked, although we thought we might miss ice cream and cereal if we lived in Jesus’ time!

We have also begun to understand short sentences spoken in Te Reo Māori. We can introduce ourselves and can identify the words for mother, father and family.
